Rainbow Connection + Biblical Proportions

You may think it sad and depressing when you hear that I just watched a movie all by myself after work today. But — well, actually it is pretty sad and depressing…

Heck, I worked later than usual tonight, so I needed to decompress a bit.

Anyway, it was a film that I’d wanted to see for a while now: the new Muppet Movie. Funny, cheesy, nostalgic, and heartwarming all at the same time, it was pretty enjoyable film – all except for a couple brief-yet-obnoxious cameos by a Disney preteen popstar. Aside from that, I it was a fun trip down memory lane – and a couple of the jokes actually made me laugh out loud. I think I have a very muppet-ey sense of humor anyway.

Perhaps the funniest scene – also by far the most unexpected – takes place when Kermit and the gang visit the bad guy in his office to plead for the ownership of their old studio. The villain is played by Chris Cooper, who typically plays serious antagonist roles. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, I won’t spoil it. Had it been any other actor, I don’t think it would have been quite as jarring – and consequently hilarious.

Okay, so that’s enough about Muppets. But before I wrap up this post, I want to share one more thing I read about on my favorite blog.

There’s a new site up called Old & New: A Project of Biblical Proportions, and it’s all about creating new artwork inspired by Biblical text. Anyone can submit, whether you’re a Christian, Muslim, Hindu. atheist, agnostic, or whatever. There are no rules – except that the art has to be in some way related to Biblical text and cannot be offensive for the sake of being offensive. Prints of featured artwork are sold, and the proceeds are donated to a charity. The site is currently supporting Blood:Water Mission, which works to provide clean drinking water villagers in Kenya.

If you’re an artist like me, you might find this inspiring. It’s at least a bit of good motivation to crack open the Good Book even when it’s not Sunday morning. Also, be sure to check out some of the work that’s already been submitted. If I can manage, I think I’ll submit something myself…

God bless, and good night!

-Daniel
