I created this cartoon strip, titled “Funchy, Punjee, & Bob”, on a weekly basis for my university’s student newspaper during my junior and senior years of college. The series tracks the experience of an average college-age male named Bob (patterned after myself) and his peers.
When I look back on these cartoons, I see more than a bunch of drawings. I see a journey. I can see the quality of the art and writing steadily improved from beginning to end. I can also see where I started experimenting with new panel layouts and coloring techniques. Some of the cartoons were funny – others… not so much. I’m not proud of all of them, but no journey is perfect. Besides, there are rarerly any successes that aren’t preceded by a multitude of failures.
