Okay, – just because I know you’re all thinking it – no, the blurred contents of this napkin doodle are not obscene. They’ve been distorted because they’re work-related.
Also, don’t go thinking now that this is all I do at work – doodling, that is. There’s hardly time for it. Still, I take advantage of every spare moment and scrap of paper I come across.
In this case… I’m not sure what I was trying to do. I hardly ever have a goal when I’m doodling. Most of the time, it’s just because I can’t help it. There’s a bunch of nonsense going on my head that needs an outlet, so I spew it out wherever I can – even on a napkin from the cafeteria.
Having said that, this composition isn’t quite as random as one might assume. The blurred object in the center is from a project I was working on at the time. The contemplative man on the right is Bob, a character from my college cartoon strip. There’s a duck that hangs around the cafeteria at work all the time, so I drew him in. The dog is caricature of my dad’s puppy. One of my coworkers likes to ride horses, hence the inclusion of a horse on the left. Everything else is… well, yeah, it’s completely random.
But who says everything has to stand to reason? Life can be so stressful sometimes – a little nonsense every now and then might just be what we need to stay sane.
God bless, and good night!
All the best,
-Daniel
