Josephus, the Historian

I love poking around Powell’s bookstore here in Portland. There are so many hidden gems lying around just waiting to be discovered. One of them is book I’ve actually wanted to read for some time now, only I’ve never found a copy that looks accessible to the layman. Until now, of course.

I picked up a used (and heavily underlined) copy of an abridged translation of the writings of Josephus. Considered by many to be the single most important account of the events during Jesus’ lifetime outside of the Bible, Josephus was a Jew who sympathized with Roman rule. Read his biography on Wikipedia (more-or-less accurate).

Anyway, as I read through the abridged version bit-by-bit, I’ll let you know if I come across anything quote-worthy. So stay tuned!

God bless, and good night!
