It’s late, so I’ll keep this short and sweet (that’s a pun – you’ll get it in a moment).
So, I was baking some blueberry coffee cake (hence the pun), when I realized I was standing in a small, steadily growing pool of water. I was in front of the sink at the time, so my first thought was, “Oh shoot. The drain is leaking… again.” The cabinet under the sink, however, was totally dry. So, I followed the trail of water straight over to the dishwasher.
Now, I’ve never used the dishwasher. Living by myself, it’s just easier to handwash. So it kind of surprised me to find that the machine was even filling up with water in the first place. I promptly turned off the water supply and opened the washer door to see what I was dealing with. Almost immediately, I was greeted with a powerful, nauseating stench. Not a good sign.
As expected, the base was full to overflowing with water, only this water had clearly been standing for some time. Phew! So I called the apartment manager (the most amazing manager in the world), and asked if he could come over to take a look. He came over right away (despite the fact that it was already 10:30 PM) with towels in hand.
Anyway, to make short story even shorter, he helped me drain it and suggested I leave it alone for a day or two. After that, we proceeded to talk for about an hour or so on topics ranging from former tenants to Mormonism. It made for an entertaining evening, to be sure! And I didn’t end up finishing the blueberry coffee cake until about 15 minutes ago. Too late to have a piece now, but I really don’t care.
Part of me is glad the dishwasher flooded. I needed a good conversation.
God bless, and good night!
