Here’s a little drawing I did whilst staying awake for tonight’s lunar eclipse – a so-called “blood moon”. The latter describes the reddish hue cast by the sun’s light shining through the earth’s atmosphere. Needless to say, it was a pretty cool way to kick off my birthday!
If you’re like me and tend to procrastinate on taxes every year, then you probably aren’t terribly fond of April 15th (Fortunately, I managed to finally get my taxes done early this year!) Apart from being tax day (and my birthday), the mid-point of April is also known for a few other things – for better or for worse.
To name just a few…
- Abraham Lincoln died at 7:22 am from his gunshot wound.
- the Titanic sank into the Atlantic at 2:20 am in 1912.
- Two bombs went off at the finish line of the Boston Marathon in 2013.
Do you see a pattern forming? It’s clear that April 15th has seen its share of dark day over the years – even as recently as last year. It’s a sober reminder that life on earth is fleeting. So, be thankful for all you have now – for the friends and family you’ve been given. To those who are hurting, offer a shoulder for comfort and prayer for healing. We live in a broken world, and sometimes things happen that we just don’t understand – no matter what day it is.
With that in mind, I’m honored to represent at least one happy occasion on a day otherwise marked by tragedy.
God bless, and good night!
-Daniel
